The Web Analytics Report 2008 looks at... Google Analytics performance

"No other company in the world can match Google’s infrastructure, but performance and support do not always scale adequately. There have been incidents where companies with larger volumes of traffic have experienced delays in obtaining report results. For example, a report based on a year’s worth of data and included a million page views hung and never completed."

Google Analytics outage

30-May-2007

Last week Google Analytics customers reported service outages that affected some for more than 24 hours. Worse, Google issued no official comment until yesterday. As Web Analytics Report readers know, Google's official support partners fare no better than users, and in this case received no communications on the outage.

CMS Watch has been raising issues about Google Analytics in our Report, a blog entry, and our subsequent press release. You could argue that as a free service, perhaps the offering is not supposed to be enterprise-class. Let's compare marketing hype to real functionality. To be clear, the tool is great in the right circumstances. But in its product tour, the company states "...Google Analytics brings a new accessibility to enterprise class analytics..." And in my conversation with Brett Crosby, Senior Manager, Google Analytics, during research for the Report, he emphasized that Google Analytics could handle enterprise-level data volume. But enterprises also expect high levels of support, data availability, and data integration. I would love to hear from serious Google Analytics users to understand their experiences.
