The ECM Report looks at... Objective's Records Management

"Records Management is a specialty of Australian vendors, and Objective 7 offers broadly certified (e.g., DOD 5015.2 VERS) RM functionality. Of particular note to some prospective customers, Objective also offers good support for the management of physical records ..."

"Bottom line: I wholeheartedly recommend the ECM Suites Report as a resource for end user organizations -- and consultants who haven't worked with every solution listed would be well-served to acquire a copy as well.

When Search and ECM collide

15-May-2007   --

"When Search & ECM Collide" was the title of a tutorial I ran in New York yesterday. It's an important topic to explore as both Search vendors and ECM vendors both seem to believe that either

  1. They can do without the other
  2. They understand the other fully and a such see the opposing technology as simply a minor supporting or interfacing toolset.

At present too many Search vendors cling to the nonsense that search is in someway a replacement for content management, while at the same time ECM vendors refuse to get serious about working deeply with search vendors. Search is not just an added piece of functionality, but potentially a powerful analytics tool that can fully integrate and make use of the rich management information that ECM systems produce and hold. At present though no ECM vendor has a strong enterprise search strategy, and no Search vendor really understands ECM. The result is disappointed buyers with emptied pockets.
