Blogosphere responds to Google's appliance upgrade

07-Feb-2007   --

Google's recent announcement that it upgraded the "Mini" version of its Search Appliance ("GSA") inspires me to share some useful links that have been accumulating in open tabs:

  1. Google's vaunted patents revolve mostly around public web search...
  2. The new IBM/Yahoo Lucene (oops..."OmniFind") search offering is probably not a Google-killer technically, but seems to target the same website search scenarios...
  3. A competitor asks whether GSA's approach to document security remains too trivial (all caveats about casting stones apply)...

Google continues to work to get inside the enterprise. You the buyer need to carefully evaluate what "enterprise" search really means in your context before investing in any technology.
