Report Excerpt

The Web CMS Report 2009 looks at... Information Lifecycle Considerations

"Putting files in a managed repository does not mean that they will be effectively managed. Follow your standard enterprise practices for categorizing and handling information throughout its full lifecycle. If you do not have (or are not aware of) such policies, now is a good time to act, because proliferating SharePoint sites will only punish you further down the road for your lack of preparation. "

Recent NARA guidance on electronic records

21-Nov-2005

NARA (U.S. National Archives and Records Administration) recently issued guidance to all Federal Agencies that essentially gives notice that all future e-Records activities by these agencies should take into account its Electronic Records Archives (ERA) program activities when evaluating, purchasing and implementing e-Records activities. This is not news within the Federal community since NARA has been been working on this initiative for several years. But, the recent agreement to have Lockheed Martin implement this program and these timelines will give more specificity and direction to the effort. NARA has already endorsed the DoD 5015.2 specification from a functional standpoint and the ERA program is more architecturally-focused in nature so vendors will be on the lookout for these specifications to continue to play in this key market area. Non-government users should also look at these specifications and architectures to make sure that they are consistent with their own interests. Most vendors won't kill one market segment to focus on another, but many vendors will be turning their attention to these architectural requirements to make sure they keep their government installed base.
