Report Excerpt

The Enterprise Search Report 2008 looks at... Fast Serach & Transfer: FAST ESP

"Design choices can have a major impact. For example, whether synonyms are expanded in the indexed document - or looked up at query time - will influence performance on either side. Because of the way ESP functions, it is also known for its relatively large index size; this is often compounded by choices based on responsiveness query-side. "

Big 4 to become Big 3 Enterprise Search vendors

04-Nov-2005

UK-based enterprise search vendor Autonomy has hit upon one way to boost its stagnant revenues: acquire US-based Verity. FAST Search & Transfer might have to make some bold moves if the Autonomy - Verity deal goes through. FAST had been nipping at Autonomy's heels of late. Customers of Autonomy - Verity will have to wait and see how two technically different systems and two very different business models will blend. Enterprise Search Report readers know that both companies have struggled a bit of late. Nevertheless, FAST will have to do some hard thinking too. Enterprise search vendors continue to surprise investors, customers, and one another. Little wonder search remains a market sector that bedevils IT professionals as well.
