Report Excerpt

The Web CMS Report 2009 looks at... Hannon Hill Cascade Server

"Despite content being stored as XML fragments, Cascade Server is fundamentally a page-based system optimized for repurposing entire XML documents rather than facilitating piece-wise content reuse. Pages are transformed to XHTML via XSLT (or to PDF via XSL-FO), enabling different views of the content objects to be rendered. If you don't have XSL expertise in-house, note that the learning curve can be steep. (Some other XML-based vendors, such as Percussion, are providing alternative templating techniques.) Hannon Hill customers confirm that the time it takes to fully realize the benefits of this CMS are highly dependent on staff knowledge of XML and XSL. "

More about The Web CMS Report 2009

Our customers say

"The reviews of various CMS packages in the Web CMS report is well-structured, allowing readers with different roles to easily examine each product in detail and quickly make comparisons between products. But even better than the excellent product reviews is the clearly-written, comprehensive, and non-biased explanations of the Web CMS landscape. In addition to making it easier to more fully-appreciate the massive amounts of product information, it also provides readers with great guidance that will assist them with any CMS selection and implementation.

GlobalSCAPE discontinues PureCMS

02-Aug-2005

GlobalSCAPE discontinued it's low-cost CMS offering, PureCMS last month. That's a little sad. The company cited "the evolving web content management market." Presumably that means that Macromedia Contribute was locking up the market for the kind of file-based content management sans workflow that PureCMS targeted. GlobalSCAPE is encouraging its PureCMS customers to upgrade to its "PublishXML" product, but that's a much more complex package for developers and authors alike. Incidentally, both products were developed by Hannon Hill (a Georgia, USA-based CMS company), and re-sold by GlobalSCAPE. Meanwhile, GlobalSCAPE's core file-transfer tools seem to be doing well.
