Report Excerpt

The Web CMS Report 2009 looks at... Microsoft Office SharePoint Services 2007

"But for Web publishing, the key issue is Word conversion, and here MOSS 2007 still strikes us as a tad immature. Upon conversion, the entire text of the Word document goes into a single field in the CMS. If you want more granular conversion, you have to write a converter routine to do so. To convert a Word document, you find in SharePoint and right-click. The SharePoint folder must be mapped to a particular locale in your website. Seems a git clumsy. "

"Very knowledgeable on Web technologies, and very effective on the topic at hand. I appreciated the impartiality to any vendor.

Microsoft CMS + Sharepoint: It's Official

19-Jul-2005   --

According to CRN, a Microsoft executive, Chris Capossela, publicly confirmed what Redmond has been telling channel partners for some time: that MCMS will get folded into Sharepoint under the new "Office 12" roll-out scheduled for the end of 2006. Most interesting to me was the distinction Capossela made between the two products, "CMS is for running Internet sites, SharePoint for intranet sites and team collaboration." It's a useful bifurcation, but begs the question about whether you will need MCMS to manage ad-hoc web content on your Intranet.
