Some RedDot partners have been disappointed by the paucity of .NET support, as it makes it harder to insert or reuse other .NET components, and in general, working within older Microsoft technologies is not exactly a career ehhancer. Battle for the Windows-based CMS Mid-Market, Continued...

RedDot and Microsoft frequently go head-to-head in competitions for Windows-based web CMS packages in the mid-market price/feature range. Microsoft has not -- as many analysts predicted -- come to dominate this market. Now RedDot is waving a report from a Canadian consulting partner, InterDoc, showing RedDot's solution scoring substantially higher than MS CMS 2002 (InterDoc is also a Microsoft partner). We don't agree with the vast disparity InterDoc found. Part of the issue is methodological: InterDoc didn't take a look at some key considerations, like XML and Web Services support, and missed a few MS CMS benefits in other areas, like localization. But the point here is that RedDot presents a highly plausible and frequently attractive alternative to Microsoft. The two products are actually rather different, and both perform certain functions very well. As always, do your homework...
