Report Excerpt

The Search & Information Access Report looks at... Microsoft and Enterprise Search

"A diagram of SharePoint Search is easily drawn, and will display the main ingredients of any search engine: content sources are crawled, indexed, and stored in an index; then searchers' queries will be passed to the query engine, which in turn will access the index and return results. As with most of the infrastructure vendors, however, reality isn't that simple and Microsoft draws on a sizable number of "generic" modules also seen elsewhere in their product line-up. "

Our customers say

"I've seen a lot of basic vendor comparison guides, but none of them come close to the technical depth, real-life experience, and hard-hitting critiques that I found in the Search & Information Access Report. When I need the real scoop about vendors, I always turn to CMS Watch.

More Fast Upheaval

16-Oct-2008   --

It's official: Fast Search & Transfer has been charged with accounting fraud, according to Reuters. The police are raiding Fast's offices today.

On the upside for Fast customers: the charge regards "accounts from before Microsoft came in," and Redmond acquiring the Norwegian enterprise search vendor last January is now proving to be an essential safety net. On the downside: it's hard to imagine this won't be disruptive for the Microsoft subsidiary. And as an interesting sidenote: as Reuters points out, "The police and Norwegian Ministry of Justice are among Fast's customers in Norway."
