Myths about open source software

In a recent talk on open source web content management, Seth Gottlieb listed some myths commonly trotted out by critics of that particular licensing model.
- Open source will cost you more than commercial software
- Open source developers are hobbyists and hackers
- Open source software is not supported
- Companies that can afford commercial software buy it
Seth also balanced his talk with a set of myths espoused by open source zealots:
- Open source software will cost you no money
- Open source makes software better
- Open source = Open standards
- With open source you get a community
